From The South Carolina Republican Party
SCGOP Thanks Treasurer Glen O’Connell For Years
Of Service
(Columbia, SC) – Today,
Katon Dawson, Chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party, announced
the resignation of State Party Treasurer Glen O'Connell.
Dawson said it was with sincere regret that he accepted the
resignation because of the “outstanding work” O’Connell has
accomplished. O'Connell, a resident of Pawley’s Island, is
stepping down in order to prepare to campaign for Georgetown County
Council District 6.
Dawson noted the outstanding work that O'Connell had accomplished as the
State Party's Treasurer and the fine working relationship that existed
between them as the Republican Party moved forward.
Dawson said, “Glen O'Connell has put our books in order and has
allowed me to address the goal of electing Republicans through out South
Carolina.” He thanked O'Connell not only for his efforts as the
Treasurer but, for his previous service as the Executive
Committeeman representing the First Congressional District (2000-2003),
Delegate to the 2004 Republican National Convention, Chairman of the
Georgetown County Republican Party (1999-2000), and President of the
Waccamaw Neck Republican Club (1998-1999).
Not surprisingly, in 2004 O’Connell was selected from hundreds of
statewide nominations to receive the David Eckstrom Leadership Award.
The Eckstrom Award, selected by a committee of Republican
activists, is an annual award given by the South Carolina Republican
Party for commitment and service to the Party and State.
The State Executive Committee expressed its appreciation and thanks for
O'Connell’s service over the past four years. The Committee in
accepting his resignation noted the leadership he has shown in resolving
all issues related to financial reporting between the Federal
Election Commission and the South Carolina Republican Party. They also
noted that the systems that have been established through
O’Connell’s effective direction have resulted in a strong fiscal
management program that will serve the Party for years to come.
O'Connell in his remarks expressed his satisfaction with the status of
the State Republican Party's operations and its positive financial
position. He noted that his challenges in the Party have been met and he
was looking forward to new challenges serving his neighbors on the
Georgetown County Council from District 6, which encompasses a
significant portion of the Waccamaw Neck, as their Republican
Councilman.
